One in five of us suffer from anxiety issues, (for teens, it is one in three) and most of us do not receive help or treatment for it.
Anxiety disorders hurt our relationships, sleep, energy levels and even work performance.
Most of us are told by their well-meaning friends, doctors, therapists and psychiatrists to "manage" our anxiety. We are advised to learn to meditate, exercise and eat healthy.
What is the good news?
- Anxiety, like many strong emotions, can have important signals for us - an opportunity to practice self-awareness and kindness
- In most cases, our anxieties can be handled through mini actions and small changes
- You already know what works for you, most of us know what triggers us and we already have coping patterns
- Everyone is different, fortunately, we all have coping methods and strengths already inside us, waiting to be discovered
- Don’t stop your medications or stop seeing your psychologist, just learn additional skills
What is different about this workshop?
No boring lectures . . . we will work on breathing exercises and activities customized just for you.
Meditation or yoga alone does not solve our anxiety issues. It can help with our uncomfortable physical sensations that accompany anxiety. We also need skills to deal with the strong emotions, feelings and thoughts that accompany anxiety. We have to respond to these through change in behaviors and actions,
We know our triggers . . . now, how do we change our environment? How do we get the help of our close family and friends?
Again, if you are already on medication and you are working with a good therapist, please continue your work there.
